He is a small orphan, newly hatched who has latched onto the grandiose yarns spun by Taffeta and she, in turn, has taken him under her dusty wing to be her little companion. He toddles around her home, “helping” as best he can while being enchanted by her numerous stories and getting into all sorts of mischief. Even when he is in trouble, Taffeta is always there to bail him out with a scold and a smirk because somewhere in a day long since passed, she was ever so much like him!

Small Frederick the Grub has always longed for life to be exciting. While the other grubs imagine the holes they will dig or roots they will smash for days on end, Frederick wants nothing more than to see new things and experience… well, everything! Perhaps he was swayed this way, his mind nurtured by Taffeta’s grand tales of heroic deeds, but he knows that even in the egg, he dreamed of adventure. Someday, he’ll pack his trusty bag and light Taffeta’s travel lantern and set off for lands unknown. But not quite yet!

Even his daydreams of derring-do can’t tear Frederick from his favorite Tartberry snacks! Their tasty sourness often inspires foraging quests in the local orchards, much to the annoyance of the berry farmers. Taffeta always covers for him with a shake of her head and a muttered, “Little scamp!”

Making up your own adventures is hard work; it takes a lot out of a little bug! When his quests become overwhelming or the day grows long, Frederick curls up to continue exploring in dreamland, with his trusty wooden sword and shield close by.

Designs, sculpt and renders are by Moonbird Workshop.
